Prior Park

The beautiful landscape and garden by Alexander Pope and Lancelot "Capability" Brown on the edge of Bath is now owned by the National Trust. It is 6.8 miles from the Old Malt House Hotel in Bath, a journey which takes about 12 minutes by car.

The famous Palladian Bridge forms a centrepiece to the garden which is little changed since 1762. The history of the place is recorded by the carvings of past visitors' names in the stonework of the bridge.

There is only disabled parking on site so a little ingenuity with a short but steep walk or a bus from the centre of Bath is needed to visit. Entry is free to National Trust members. Paths can be steep and uneven.

Our daughters loved the "trackers trail" activity and we were all taken with the friendliness of all those at Prior Park, including a rather greedy one-eyed cat by the tearoom.

The Victoria Sponge cake was delicious too!

We look forward to following Prior Park through the seasonal changes over the next few months and are certain to become regular visitors in the longer future.
